Signs That Your Liver Needs A Detox

Written by Rob Connolly

Your liver is an extremely important filtration system that your body depends on to convert toxins into waste products, cleanse your blood and metabolize nutrients.  It is one of many organs to keep healthy to help improve your quality of life.  Your liver may be sending you signals, looking for help, asking you to make some changes to your routine to restore its function back to maximum efficiency.   According to Dr. William Cole in Natural News Magazine, here are 16 signs your liver may be feeling stressed.

  • You crave sugar often
  • You have digestive problems
  • You’re more prone to allergies
  • You don’t feel healthy
  • Your skin isn’t clear
  • You feel tired all the time
  • You’re always foggy
  • You have regular joint pains
  • You feel constantly stressed
  • You find it hard to lose weight
  • You have hormonal issues
  • You have bad body odor
  • You have irregular sleeping patterns
  • You feel depressed and anxious
  • You get cold sores
  • You’re emotionally attached to certain foods

If most of these feel familiar to you, it may be time to change up your routine and adopt a healthier diet.  Liver problems can lead to slower metabolism and this makes it hard for some people to lose weight.  Start focusing on eating a balanced diet which means ditching the processed and fast-foods and increase your water intake.

Here is a list of foods that can help you lose weight and, ultimately, reduce liver fat levels:

  • Almonds
  • Artichoke
  • Berries
  • Beets
  • Broccoli sprouts
  • Citrus fruits
  • Dandelion root and greens
  • Fermented foods
  • Spinach
  • Avocado
  • Asparagus
  • Green tea
  • Leafy greens
  • Lentils
  • Salmons

Altering your diet can be very challenging in the beginning.  They key is to approach the change in small steps.  Tell yourself that you are just going to try this diet for 2 weeks, take notes of any positive or beneficial changes to your health once the first week is over.  You may be amazed at how fast your body, attitude and health can change in a short period of time.  The positive reinforcement you experience after only a few days can help to propel you into the next week.   After a few weeks of being on your new diet, think about introducing light levels of exercise a few days a week like walking around the neighborhood.

Outside of a proper diet and exercise, intermittent fasting and liver-healthy supplements could also serve you and your liver well.  When fasting, Dr. Cole also says that “periods without food give our body [and liver] a chance to repair and clean itself out since it doesn’t have to focus on or funnel energy to our digestive system.”  A basic form of fasting you can try is to confine your eating to an 8-hour window per day.  For example, only eat (you can drink water) within the hours of 12:00pm to 8:00pm and fast for the remainder of the 16 hours.  Regarding liver-healthy supplements, stick with the natural products that have been backed by numerous studies such as milk thistle, turmeric, chlorella and activated charcoal.  Be sure to follow the recommended dosages and follow the directions on how to consume to maximize the bioavailability (proportion of the substance that is absorbed by your body)

If you are currently feeling the signs that your liver is due for a refresh, I encourage to commit to at least 2-weeks of healthier eating and exercising.  If you see improvements in your health, please share the news with others including adding any comments below.  Community support can go a long way. Stay healthy!
